Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services has established its fifth Amaan Veshi centre.
The ministry stated that nine girls from the Hulhumale’ Fiyavathi orphanage have been transferred to the centre established in Manadhoo, Noonu Atoll, which has the capacity to accommodate 10 children.
The Amaan Veshi centres are homes for children in state care established in the atolls. The centre has a community-based model to give children structure and allow them to grow up with the advantages of a familial environment. Amaan Veshi centres have also been opened in Dhidhdhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, Funadhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, Eydhafushi in Baa Atoll, and Fuvahmulah City.
