Fayyaz Ismail assumes office as MDP Chairperson

The newly elected Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Fayyaz Ismail has officially assumed responsibilities of the position.

After assuming office on May 23, Fayyaz met with senior officials of the MDP Secretariat, including Vice President of MDP Mohamed Shifaz and Deputy Chairperson Ali Niyaz. Discussions were held at the meeting on strengthening the administrative operations of the party and future plans. As such, discussions were held on forming new committees to steer the expansion of the parties’ activities in the atolls.

Fayyaz, who is also holding office as the Minister of Economic Development, won the MDP Chairperson election with 58% of the votes, ahead of Parliamentarian Imthiyaz Fahmy who won 42% of the votes. The election was the most competitive internal election held in the history of MDP.
