Ministry of Islamic Affairs has officially launched the fieldwork for the development of a new mosque in Hanimaadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll. The fieldwork was launched by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali and President of Hanimaadhoo Island Council Abdul Sattar Hassan at a special ceremony.
The Islamic ministry stated that the new mosque will be able to accommodate 500 worshippers at a time. The agreement to construct the mosque was signed in February last year and the project is expected to be completed within one year at a cost of USD778,000.
Mosques are being constructed in various parts of the country as part of the government’s work to expand basic and essential services to all inhabited islands including small communities.
