The Secretariat of the Parliament of the Maldives has revealed that 20 bills are being reviewed by 11 committees in the second parliamentary session of this year.
The new parliamentary session began last week and is scheduled to conclude by the end of June. The main work on the parliament floor has consisted of questioning cabinet ministers, while 11 committees review 20 bills, including nine bills that have reached their review deadline. The committees are working to complete their review of three bills this month and four bills at the start of June.
Important bills being reviewed include the Companies Bill at the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Affairs, the bill on legal evidence and the amendment bill to the Judicature Act at the Parliamentary Committee on Judicial Services, and the bill on insurance coverage at the Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts.
Additionally, 10 committees are conducting work related to resolutions and cases submitted to the Parliament. They include six cases submitted by parliamentarians, seven resolutions, and various reports. Work on numerous bills have been scheduled for this parliamentary session, including bills that had not been reviewed in the previous session.
