Medical Doctors Specialisation Scholarship opportunity reopened

Ministry of Higher Education has reopened the opportunity to apply for the Medical Doctors Specialisation Scholarship. The opportunity was reopened after the ministry received a low number of applications for the scholarships.

A total of 15 scholarship opportunities were opened in March, including 10 slots for a master's degree and five slots for a doctoral degree. The scholarships were awarded to five of the 10 individuals who applied within the deadline. They will undertake their training in the fields of ophthalmology, anesthesiology, dermatology, gynecology, and internal medicine. Each of them will complete a bond with a regional hospital following the completion of their training.

The ministry has now reopened scholarship opportunities for the medical staff working in five hospitals. As such, one slot has been opened for the Addu Equatorial Hospital, two slots for Hulhumale’ Hospital, three slots for Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, three slots for Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital, and one slot for Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital.

The ministry stated the fully-funded scholarship opportunities aim to train specialists needed in hospitals across the country. The ministry will prioritise doctors already working in these hospitals when choosing the candidates, as well as the years they have worked at the hospital and their academic merit. Interested individuals must apply by June 1 via the ministry’s designated online portal.

After choosing the candidates, the government will cover their ticket purchase, stipends, book allowance, course fee, establishment allowance, departure allowance, and visa expenditure. The candidates are required to begin their studies within 10 months and will be allowed to cancel their scholarships beforehand. Candidates who fail to complete the course will be required to pay back the expenses under the terms set by the ministry. They will also be penalised if they discard the scholarship opportunity after being nominated.
