MTCC to undertake development of Kandu’oiy Giri harbour

Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture has contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to undertake the development of the harbour facilities in Kandu’oiy Giri, Kaafu Atoll.

The contract for the project was signed at a special ceremony held at the fisheries ministry on May 18. The contract was signed by Finance Executive at the fisheries ministry Eenas Naseer and CEO of MTCC Adam Azim.

Kandu’oiy Giri is an island assigned for the operations of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO). The harbour development project aims to ensure that the fishing vessels using the harbour facilities in the island will be able to safely dock alongside the harbor to attain service from the MIFCO facility.

Scope of works for the project include harbour dredging operations of 10,000cbm, channel dredging of 10,000cbm, construction of a 50m breakwater, a 63m revetment, a 125m quay wall, installation of 215m sheet pile, installation of harbour pavement, installation of harbour and navigational lights. Additionally, work will be done to install a freshwater and saltwater line on the harbour.

The value of the project is USD2.34 million. The project is to be completed within 365 days.
