WDC by-elections to be held in another five islands

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has decided to conduct by-elections for Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) of another five islands.

Vice President of ECM Ismail Habeeb revealed by-elections are set to be held for the vacant WDC slots of Vashafaru in Haa Alifu Atoll, Lhaimagu and Komandoo in Shaviyani Atoll, Thulusdhoo in Kaafu Atoll and Thoddoo in Alifu Alifu Atoll. Habeeb revealed the by-elections will be held on July 2.

ECM has previously expressed concern over the regular vacancies of WDCs, forcing a significant expenditure on conducting frequent by-elections. ECM had revealed plans to work on a legal solution for this issue.
