Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the development of the ferry terminal in Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll, as part of the Integrated National Public Ferry Network (INPFN).
The ferry terminal is one of the six ferry terminals to be developed in Zone 1 of INPFN, which includes islands in Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu and Shaviyani Atoll. The terminal was developed with an area dedicated for commercial activities, a parent room, luggage room, tuck shop and restrooms.
The first phase of the implementation of INPFN involves linking 40 islands in Zone 1 with high speed ferry services. Ferry terminals are to be developed in the six main islands of this network, and smaller scale ferry stops are to be developed in the remaining islands.
The ferry network is a large-scale project that introduces efficient, affordable, convenient and sustainable passenger and cargo ferry services to all administrative islands of the country. In line with the Decentralisation Act, it aims to facilitate inclusive regional development by connecting people and services, accelerate social and economic growth, improve efficiency in the delivery of public services and improve mobility and accessibility for all citizens in all areas of the nation.
