President congratulates new President of UAE

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has congratulated Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on his election as the new president of the UAE. President Solih met with Sheikh Mohammed as part of his visit to the UAE to express his condolences and sympathies in person to the family of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the late President of the UAE.

During the meeting, President Solih expressed deep sadness upon learning of Sheikh Khalifa’s passing and asked to convey his prayers and condolences to the late president’s family and the people of the UAE. The president said Sheikh Khalifa would be remembered as a beacon of modernity and national unity like his father before him. He also prayed to bless Sheikh Khalifa’s soul with eternity in paradise and grant strength and resolve to the late president’s family and the people of the UAE. He went on to congratulate Sheikh Mohammed on his election as the new president of the UAE and wished him success in carrying out his duties.

President of the UAE Sheikh Khalifa, who was also the Emir of Abu Dhabi and the Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, passed away on May 13 at the age of 73. Following his death, the Maldives observed three days of mourning with the national flag flown at half-mast from May 14-16. President Solih also signed the book of condolences opened in memory of Sheikh Khalifa.
