Land allocated for development of a garment factory in Addu

Business Centre Corporation (BCC) has revealed land has been allocated for the development of a garment factory in Addu City.

BCC first announced the decision to establish a garment factory in Addu in 2020. The aim of the project is to create more job opportunities for locals and to facilitate training in the field.

BCC announced the land required for the development has now been allocated. The corporation has also issued an announcement seeking a consultant for the project, with applications to be accepted until May 23.

A garment factory had previously been operated in Gan, Addu City between 1982 and 2005. Operations of the factory were terminated after the World Trade Organisation (WTO) stopped issuing its textile quota.
