Dhivehi Language Academy has launched a mobile application for the Dhivehi language dictionary with over 36,000 words.
Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoon launched the application at the opening ceremony of the 35th national Dhivehi language speaking competition. At the ceremony, Minister Yumna said the application is an important step in the work to develop the Dhivehi language with the use of the latest technology. The minister said the application will make it easier for Maldivians to search for Dhivehi words and thanked the President of Maldives Computer Society Ahmed Nadheem for developing the application.
Also at the ceremony, the President of Dhivehi Language Academy Dr. Ashraf Abdul Raheem said the dictionary application has 36,597 words with 234,433 meanings and that the application will continually be updated with the latest changes.
Dhivehi Language Academy also announced the results of the various competitions held to celebrate Dhivehi Language Day and awarded the winners at the ceremony.
