Gov’t to provide training opportunities in two sectors

Ministry of Economic Development has announced that it is seeking parties interested in conducting training programmes for workers who have been financially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The economic ministry is currently seeking parties interested in conducting the training programmes for the information and communications technology (ICT) and diving sectors. The training programmes will be conducted under the COVID-19 Emergency Income Support Project, which is carried out under the aid of the World Bank. The project aims to mitigate the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis on workers and their families, and build a resilient community that can overcome similar challenges in the future. The project includes a component that focuses on upskilling and training, in order to increase the human resource capacity of different sectors.

The economic ministry initially announced the opportunity for parties to conduct the training programmes in April, but re-announced the opportunity after making changes to the course fees. Interested parties are required to submit their application by September 30.

Statistics from the Ministry of Finance shows that USD27 million in Income Support Allowance have been disbursed to 22,946 individuals who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
