Newly built health centres expected to last until 2045

Ministry of Health has stated the health centres that are being newly built as part of the healthcare service upgrade in the atolls are expected to last without any major renovation or reconstruction until 2045.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister of State for Health Ahmed Adil said new hospitals and health centres are being built to incorporate several new services which were not previously available. The state minister noted all the facilities will be operated in accordance to international healthcare standards. He added solar PV systems will be installed in new health centres and hospitals, in order to reduce expenditure on electricity and promote sustainability.

Speaking further, State Minister Adil said the tendered projects will be contracted very soon, noting the new health centres are expected to be in operation by the end of next year. He noted all the new health centres are being built to last until 2045 without bringing any structural changes or major repairs.

The government is undertaking several projects across the atolls to expand and strengthen healthcare services. As such, the government has announced several projects to develop tertiary hospitals and mid-range hospitals, as well as projects to expand the services of health centres in several islands.
