The Bar Council of the Maldives has opened the opportunity to submit candidacy to contest in its election to be held in June.
The bar council is accepting candidates for the positions of president, vice president, and executive committee members, as the current officials will end their term on July 13. The election has been scheduled for June and interested individuals can submit their candidacy before May 22.
Individuals vying for the positions of president and vice president of the bar council are required to have 10 years of experience as a lawyer. The current president of the bar council is Maumoon Hameed and the vice president is former Attorney General Abdulla Muiz.
In addition, six members will be elected to the executive committee. Individuals vying for executive committee positions are required to have five years of experience as a lawyer. The committee also includes the Attorney General.
