Ministry of Education has revealed that the first school in Hulhumale’ Phase II will be open next year.
The ministry contracted Amin Construction Private Limited to construct Salahuddin School in Hulhumale’ Phase II in 2021. The agreement was signed by Minister of State for Education Ahmed Riyaz and Director of Amin Construction Mohamed Irfan. Amin Construction is tasked with constructing the school with six floors and a capacity of 1,000 to 1,200 students within 390 days at a cost of USD7 million. The company has begun construction of the building. The education ministry has cited Amin Construction as stating that the fieldwork will be completed before the end of the year and that the school will be open in the next academic year.
Hulhumale’ Phase II was first populated in 2020 when owners of land plots first sold in the area began moving into their new homes. The population of the area began increasing sharply when recipients of the 6,720 housing units developed under the Hiya housing project began moving into their flats last year. However, the area still lacks several essential services and residents of the area are required to travel often to Hulhumale’ Phase I or Male’ for services.
