Ministry of Tourism has recorded a significant increase in tourist arrivals to the Maldives from the UK.
Statistics from the tourism ministry show 69,808 tourists have visited the Maldives from the UK so far this year, which is a 42% increase compared to the 28,992 arrivals recorded in the same period in 2019, before the pandemic.
The latest update from the ministry shows 531,019 tourists have visited the Maldives this year, crossing the half-million mark on April 14, with the UK leading the markets for the first time ever in the Maldivian tourism history. The statistics also show a total of 131,764 arrivals were recorded in January, 149,008 arrivals were recorded in February, and 150,739 arrivals were recorded in March.
The highest number of tourists visited the Maldives from the UK this year with 13.1% of the market share, with the second-highest being India with 59,404 arrivals and 11.2% of the market share. Russia is the third-largest source market with 54,624 arrivals and 10.3% of the market share. A daily average of 4,827 tourists visit the Maldives and spend an average of eight days on holiday.
The government is holding events throughout 2022 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Maldives Tourism this year. The tourism ministry and stakeholders of the tourism industry are working to register 1.6 million tourist arrivals this year.
