HDC issues land for the development of two more schools in Hulhumale’ Phase II

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has issued land for the development of two more schools in Hulhumale’ Phase II.

The agreement for the issue of land plots for the development of two new schools in Hulhumale’ Phase II was signed by Minister of State for Education Ahmed Riyaz and Managing Director of HDC Suhail Ahmed on April 20. The land plots were issued from neighbourhoods 4 and 5 of Hulhumale’ Phase II.

The land issued in Neighbourhood 4 is a 65,534sqft land, which will see the development of a six-storey school building with the capacity of 1,500 students. Meanwhile, the school in Neighbourhood 5 will be developed in a 60,720sqft land plot, and will also be developed up to six stories to accommodate 1,200 students. Both schools will include primary and secondary grades.

The education ministry had earlier revealed four schools will be developed in Hulhumale’ Phase II. This includes three schools developed under the contractor finance, design and build model, and an international school developed by a foreign party. All schools will include grades 1 to 10.

Hulhumale’ Phase II was first populated in 2020 when owners of land plots first sold in the area began moving into their new homes. The population of the area began increasing sharply when recipients of the 6,720 housing units developed under the Hiya housing project began moving in to their flats last year. However, the area still lacks several essential services and residents of the area are required to travel often to Hulhumale’ Phase I or Male’ for services.
