MTCC contracted to provide services of second and third phases of INPFN

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to provide services for the second and third phases of the Integrated National Public Ferry Network (INPFN).

The contract for the second and third phases of INPFN was signed during a special ceremony held at the planning ministry on April 14. The contract was signed by Permanent Secretary Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed and CEO of MTCC Adam Azim.

The ferry network is a large-scale project that introduces efficient, affordable, convenient, and sustainable passenger and cargo ferry services to all administrative islands of the country. In line with the Decentralisation Act, it aims to facilitate inclusive regional development by connecting people and services, accelerating social and economic growth, improving efficiency in the delivery of public services, and improving mobility and accessibility for all citizens in all areas of the nation.

Implementation of the first phase of the project is also carried out by MTCC. Under the first phase, MTCC will establish a ferry network of 40 islands in the northern atolls, classified as Zone 1. MTCC is currently undertaking the construction of ferry terminals and ferry stops required for the service, and the development of the vessels to be used for the service.
