Ministry of Tourism has revealed the UK is currently the top source market of tourists to the Maldives.
As per the latest statistics of the tourism ministry, the Maldives has recorded 456,992 tourist arrivals this year, as of April 5. This represents a 43.2% increase from the figure recorded during the same period last year.
The statistics revealed tourists from the UK make up 12.7% of all tourist arrivals recorded in the Maldives so far this year. Russia is second on the list with 11.6%, while India is third with 10.9%.
The statistics also revealed tourist arrivals had increased progressively over the first three months of the year. As such, the Maldives recorded 131,764 tourist arrivals in January, 149,008 arrivals in February and 150,739 arrivals in March. During the first five days of April, 25,481 tourists arrived in the Maldives.
As per the statistics, the Maldives is recording a daily average of 5,096 tourist arrivals. Tourists currently spend an average of 8 days in the Maldives.
The tourism ministry and other stakeholders of the industry have set the target of recording 1.6 million tourist arrivals this year. Several promotional campaigns have been launched as part of efforts to reach this target.
