The Government of the Maldives has contracted the Addu City Land Reclamation Project to Van Oord India Private Limited.
The contract for the project was signed on March 27, as part of the visit of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to Addu City. The contract signing ceremony was held at the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement (NCPLE) in Hithadhoo, Addu City.
The Addu City Land Reclamation Project, worth over USD84 million, involves reclamation of 194.3 hectares of land in the city. Land is set to be reclaimed from Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoofeydhoo and two islands within the confines of the city’s lagoon for the purpose of tourism development.
The reclamation project would be carried out under a direct line of credit facility from the Exim Bank of India. The project is estimated to be completed within 18-months.
