Over 100,000 tourist arrivals recorded so far in March

The Maldives has recorded over 100,000 tourist arrivals so far in March.

The statistics from the Ministry of Tourism show 100,350 tourists visited the Maldives as of March 20, which is a 50% increase compared to the same period last year. The highest daily tourist visits were recorded on March 5 with 6,369 arrivals.

The statistics show a total of 131,764 arrivals were recorded in January, and 149,008 arrivals were recorded in February. Overall, a total of 381,122 tourists visited the Maldives so far this year, which is a 49% increase compared to 255,903 visits in the same period last year.

The highest number of tourists visited from Russia this year with 13% of the total arrivals. Russia had the second-highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives at the end of 2021, followed by India. However, India is now the third-largest market with 10% of the total tourist arrivals to the Maldives. The UK has the second-highest number of tourist visits this year with 11% of the total arrivals.

The government and stakeholders of the tourism industry aim to register 1.6 million tourist arrivals this year.
