Maldives records 48% more tourist arrivals

Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 350,000 tourist arrivals have been recorded so far this year, which is a 48% increase compared to the same period last year.

Statistics from the tourism ministry show 359,272 tourists have visited the Maldives as of March 16, which is an increase compared to the 241,407 arrivals recorded in the same period last year. The statistics show a total of 131,764 arrivals were recorded in January, and 149,008 arrivals were recorded in February.

The highest number of tourists visited from Russia this year with 49,364 arrivals, with the second-highest being the UK with 40,672 arrivals. Russia had the second-highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives at the end of 2021, only exceeded by India. However, India is currently the third-largest source market with 36,349 arrivals to the Maldives recorded so far this year.

Statistics released by the tourism ministry show that a daily average of 4,906 tourists visit the Maldives and spend an average of eight days on holiday. The ministry and stakeholders of the tourism industry are working to register 1.6 million tourist arrivals this year.
