Male’ City land-use plan not yet finalised

Minister of State for National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Akram Kamaluddeen has said the Male’ City land-use plan has not yet been finalised.

Speaking to PSM News, State Minister Kamaluddeen refuted claims made by the Mayor of Male’ City Dr. Mohamed Muizzu that the planning ministry refused to approve the land-use plan. The state minister said Male’ City Council requested that the plan be approved, via a letter sent in December last year, while neglecting to complete all of the works required to approve the plan. He said the ministry advised the council to complete the works and include it in the plan.

However, State Minister Kamaluddeen said the council has not given a response to the ministry and is working against legal standards and obstructing the works of the government. He said the council should notify the ministry before making announcements such as issuing permits for the industrial village in Male'.

Furthermore, State Minister Kamaluddeen said the council has still not resubmitted the land-use plan with the necessary changes and expressed disapproval that the council is reregistering some areas under the council before the approval of the land-use plan.

Male’ City Council submitted the land-use plan for approval in November last year, after which the planning ministry requested the council to resubmit the plan after making the amendments it requested, along with a report which includes details of the land plots and the purposes for which it will be used by the council.
